Seeing and Supporting Children’s Eagerness for Relationships in a World of Social Distancing
With Nadia Jaboneta, Brian Silveira and Deb Curtis
Children have a huge capacity and desire to offer support and comfort and accept and benefit from the gifts given by others. How can we draw on their innate skills and competences for cultivating relationships and showing empathy and compassion as we reinvent new ways of being together while staying healthy? Rather than seeing their social struggles as negative or needing remediation, we can recognize that even children’s challenging behaviors and strong emotions reveal that they are eager to connect and make a contribution to others.
Join us as we share and study stories from our own work where we have documented children’s skills and dispositions for making friends, resolving conflict and showing empathy and compassion. Consider seeing your role in children’s social relationships in a different way as we negotiate this new world of staying healthy while being deeply connected. What better, heart lifting topic could we share during this surreal time?
“I think our staff really benefited from all the training. All the trainings allowed the staff to explore and think differently and keep up-to-date….”
