Light Young Makers: Supporting STEAM Learning A Trilingual Professional Learning Community

October 11 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

Registration is Full
Children are born makers -exploring their worlds and creating new knowledge. How can we utilize the resources and materials that we have in the classroom or at children’s homes to help children create, problem solve, and think deeply?
Join a community of practice on supporting making and STEAM learning! How can we support children’s STEAM explorations? Each monthly session will include our own “making” experience and we will dedicate time to share documentation. The group will meet monthly from September 2022 to June 2023 to share activities, documentation, reflections, and resources.
Together we will:
  • Have a monthly making experience as a community of learners – sewing, building, balancing, and more!
  • Share maker activities, documentation, and resources
  • Define STEAM – Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, & Math – and create learning opportunities for children to build their STEAM knowledge and connections between domains
  • Reflect on the learning and development we see in children through observation and documentation
  • Inspire ourselves to try new materials, new questions, and new provocations to deepen our STEAM teaching practice
  • Meet with other educators to share ideas, challenges, and successes
  • The PLC sessions will be offered in Chinese, Spanish, and in English
  • The following Tuesdays, 6:30-8pm: 9/13, 10/11, 11/08, 12/13, 01/10, 2/21, 03/14, 4/11, 5/09, 6/13.
  • The first registered participants (up to 45) will receive an introductory package of materials mailed to their homes to support their making activities!
